Iran and the United States have initiated indirect talks in Muscat, Oman, with the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirming the development, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Sunday.

The Iranian delegation is being led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, while the US team is headed by Steve Whitkoff, the special envoy for the Middle East.

According to Iranian media, the first round of talks concluded with a positive tone, and both sides agreed to continue negotiations next week.

Notably, there was a brief moment of direct conversation between negotiators from the two countries during the session.

In a social media statement, Abbas Araqchi said that the discussions were held in a constructive and positive environment.

Speaking to Iranian media earlier, he emphasised Iran’s serious and fair approach, stating that Tehran seeks an equitable and honourable agreement based on mutual respect.

Araqchi stressed that the negotiations focus solely on the nuclear issue, and any meaningful progress depends on the US demonstrating genuine intent.

He reiterated that any eventual agreement must ensure the interests of the Iranian people on an equal footing.
