Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday inaugurated the much-awaited PTI’s government flagship project Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Peshawar and said this bus service will increase the per-capita income of the Peshawar city too, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Imran Khan said “The BRT is a blessing and is the best metro bus project of Pakistan.”

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the BRT Peshawar, Imran Khan acknowledged that when you introduced the modern transport system it is phase one of the development. He said BRT is the 3rd generation transport system.

Imran Khan specially congratulated Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak. “Pervaiz Khattak you were right and we were wrong about the BRT. I had reservations about the BRT Peshawar but Pervaiz Khattak will always be like, you will see, when the BRT project is completed.” 

It is pertinent to note that the foundation stone of BRT Peshawar project was laid during the former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak’s tenure.

Imran Khan said 27-km-long phase 1 of the BRT has solved Peshawar’s basic traffic problem. “Along with the 27-km track, there are 60 km feeder buses that connect the whole Peshawar city,” Imran Khan further said.

“The basic difference of these projects is how can you make a poor man's life better and I am sure with just a ticket price of Rs10 for one stop to Rs50 for whole bus trip everyone can afford it,” Imran Khan said.

Imran Khan said BRT will benefit students, labourers and it will help people a lot as it also connects hospitals.

He also highlighted and appreciated the use of hybrid diesel buses that will also make less pollution.

BRT SALIENT FEATURES

27 Kilometers Main Corridor, 16 KM at Grade, 8 KM Flyover, 3 KM Underpass, 31 Stations, the distance between station 850m, 3 Bus Depots (at Chamkani, Hayatabad, and Dabgari), 3 Park and Ride Facility, Bicycle lane, Complete revamp of Footpaths, 3rd Generation with 8 Feeder routes.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) provides a fast, efficient, reliable and comfortable mode of transport for travellers. BRT also provides improved waiting facilities and supporting infrastructure for passengers such as e-ticketing and real-time information about bus schedules.

According to City Traffic Police Peshawar, BRT route will run from Chamkani to Hayatabad, a total distance of 27 kilometres with 31 stations. Around 450 buses with a capacity of up to 95 people, will be operational on the BRT system and BRT buses will run all day with extra buses at peak times.

To reach your destination the travel time will be shortened, secure, and comfortable. You can travel from Chamkani to Gul Market in 15 minutes and from Hayatabad to Gora Qabristan in 25 minutes.
