Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will contest the upcoming general elections, his counsel said on Tuesday.
Talking to 24 NewsHD TV channel, Azam Nazir Tarar said the top court passed the clear-cut remarks about disqualification for life.
Flanked by Amjad Pervez and other lawyers, Azam Nazir reiterated the stance of innocence of the former premier. The chief justice and other judges of the Supreme Court have remarked that disqualification for life cannot be enforced, he said
“Yesterday the Supreme Court passed an order to clear the confusion which will be enforced in the first week of January. Nawaz Sharif will submit nomination papers and contest the election.” NAB’s remand request remand after the completion of arguments was inappropriate, he maintained.
Amjad Parvez said NAB admitted that they have nothing in this case except photocopy and analysis of Wajid Zia. Wajid Zia’s becoming a witness is like reading news in a paper and becoming a witness which is not admissible in court, he added.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has acquitted Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia reference. An IHC divisional bench consisting of Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb pronounced the verdict a few minutes after it was reserved. The court also rejected the National Accountability Bureau’s plea to send the case back to the trial court.
