It is a common perception in our society that award and reward are not based upon justice and merit.

And this impression is further justified and reinforced when you hear that the government servants accused of corruption are rewarded for their “best performance”.

The latest episode was reported in Faisalabad where, according to 24NewsHD TV channel, a policeman, who has been suspended on bribery charges, received a cash ward and certificate.

This award was bestowed upon Head Constable Zafar alias Billa who is under suspension for patronising drug paddlers and receiving bribe in return.

Zafar was stationed at the Saddar Police Station. On June 26, City41 had aired the footage in which he can be seen receiving money from the criminals. Later, Faisalabad CPO Sohail Chaudhry had suspended him after taking notice of the news.

In this connection, a case was also registered against the accused with the Saddar Police Station. However, the police haven’t make any arrest so far.

But despite all these facts, Faisalabad RPO Raja Riffat Mukhtar awarded this policeman during a ceremony at his office the other day, as Zafar was among the 110 officials showing best performance in the region.
