Government College University (GCU), Faisalabad Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Shahid Kamal died Monday in a car accident, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the rescue sources, he was on his way to Faisalabad from Lahore when his car met an accident near Sahianwala.

Prof Dr Shahid Kamal was an internationally acknowledged scholar in the field of statistics.

He earned his PhD in Applied Biostatistics from the University of Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom (UK).

He had over 30-year experience of teaching, research and administration.

He served as dean, director, principal, and professor at University of the Punjab, Lahore.

He developed many institutes and centers including Operation Research Centre and Statistical Databank.

He initiated many master degree programmes at University of the Punjab. He was the author of two books and contributed a great number of research articles in reputable national and international research journals.

He also supervised many research scholars at MPhil and PhD levels. He had joined GCU Faisalabad as the VC on July 24, 2019.

3-day mourning announced 

Shahid Kamal’s Namaz-i-Janaza was offered at GC University Hockey Ground at 12:30 pm after which his body was sent to Lahore for burial.

In a statement, the university announced to observe three-day mourning over the tragic death of its vice-chancellor. The varsity also suspended educational, administrative and other activities for three days until March 15.

GCU in its statement said that all university teachers, employees and students are in shock and share the grief of the vice-chancellor’s family.
