Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) President Maulana Fazlur Rehman has released a video message calling upon his supporters, followers, lawyers and members of allied parties to ensure their participation in a sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Monday,
The PDM announced the sit-in outside Supreme Court to register a protest against the top court’s decision to declare illegal the arrest of Imran Khan in a corruption case.
“The Supreme Court is the mother of law, not mother-in-law,” he stressed adding that a criminal ‘is being protected instead of being brought to justice’.
“We have to protect our institutions and correct the corruption of judges,” Fazl said in the video message.
He adds: “All convoys should reach the venue at 9 am, he directed, adding that a three-judge bench and High Court judges have granted protection to a convict
“Judges are paid from the taxes of the people of Pakistan. They are violating the constitution, law and judicial traditions.”
Imran Khan’s supporters and PTI members took to the streets to vent their spleen over the arrest of their leader. Angry protesters stormed the GHQ in Rawalpindi, Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore, Pakistan Radio Station in Peshawar and other such state assets. The violent protest claimed lives of innocent people and left a trail of destruction.
“A criminal is being protected, and given VIP protocol. The criminal is encouraged to commit more crimes and destroy the economy.
“A criminal is being encouraged to further weaken the country so much that the country is torn apart. We have been in the field before, today it is necessary to come in the field once.
“We are inviting people and workers to reach Dastur Highway. The Ansar al-Islam leaders and volunteers arrive to maintain order,
“I also appeal to the lawyers' community to actively participate in the protest to protect the law. The battle for the supremacy of the Constitution has to be fought, lawyers have always made sacrifices for this cause and their support is need of the hour. We have to show unity to send a strong message that the courts should stop their behaviour.”
The key coalition partner, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz has geared up a campaign to muster up support for the demo.
