Gohar Ejaz urges govt to bring big fish under tax net to meet Rs180b shortfall

Former caretaker commerce minister Gohar Ejaz has stressed that the government should not burden the people with more taxes to meet the Rs 180 billion tax shortfall.
“People are finding it difficult to make both ends meet due to inflation, ” the former minister said.
He added; “Inflation has increased by 60% in the last two and a half years. FBR's tax shortfall should be met through reforms in the tax system.
“The government should tax the holy cows that earn extraordinary profits. Because of the weaknesses in the tax system, these cows are earning extraordinary profits.
Household, commercial and industrial consumers should be provided relief in electricity bills
She stressed that people don’t need winter electricity, as the public can get this relief by finalising contracts with IPPs by December 31.
Earlier, Gohar raised against the issue of the IPPs' fleecing people.
