Former Sri Lankan cricketer Deshamanya Arjuna Ranatunga has praised the efforts of the Government of Pakistan (GOP) led by Prime Minister Imran Khan to bring justice to his countryman Priyantha Kumara and his family, reported 24NewsHD TV on Tuesday.
In his written letter to Pakistan's premier Imran Khan, Ranatunga has said: "Ever since you became the Prime Minister, you have been carefully resolving the country's contentious issues."
Ranatunga has said such violent behaviour should be strongly condemned, as it is carried out by a small section of the population.
I hope you will be able to teach a few misguided members of the Pakistani community how to behave with respect, added Ranatunga.
The whole nation, especially Pak-Sri Lanka relations, should not be judged on the actions of a few, added Arjuna.
Ranatunga said that the relationship between the two nations has always been one of strength and solidarity. When Sri Lanka was in trouble, it was Pakistan that sided with our troops, added the Ex Lankan candidate.
Ranatunga said that in 1996, other countries refused to come to Sri Lanka to participate in the Cricket World Cup. Pakistan came to Sri Lanka in difficult times and expressed support, added Ranatunga.
In a letter to Imran Khan, Ranatunga further added that whether it is cricket or politics, you have always been unwavering in facing challenges.
