Despite the fact that the weather is turning cold in Lahore with each passing day, there is no improvement as far as smog is concerned as the air quality index (AQI) in the city was recorded at 320 on Tuesday morning, making it the world’s second most polluted city in the world after Indian capital New Delhi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Besides the provincial capital, smog continues to engulf other urban centers of Punjab as well as the situation is not much different in Bahawalpur, Gujranwala and Faisalabad where, too, people are falling sick due to extremely poor air quality.
People in these areas are experiencing breathing difficulties besides skin and eye infections.
As always, doctors have advised people to wear facemasks before going outside in order to protect themselves from the hazards of pollution.
Karachi, the country’s commercial hub, is not smog-free either as the city emerged as the eighth most polluted city of the world.
Apart from that, weather is cold and according to the weather department, temperatures in the Sindh capital are likely to drop further.
In these circumstances, when the steps taken by the government appear to be insufficient, people are looking to the heavens for rain so that they could breathe in fresh air.
