Power sector will drown Pak economy if not reformed: Miftah

Ahsan Iqbal says not external but internal security could be a problem

Federal Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has said that if the power sector is not reformed, it will drown the country's economy.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, Miftah addressed the National Budget Conference in Islamabad on Tuesday and said that Rs1,100 billion was given for power subsidy this fiscal year.
He told the conference that the system of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is so complex and it took an hour to understand how the billing system works.
Miftah Ismail said that former premier Imran Khan had borrowed 79 percent loans more than the loans borrowed by all the previous Prime Ministers of Pakistan.
The finance minister said that the circular debt of the gas sector has increased to Rs1,500 billion.
Addressing the conference, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that the country witnessed a failed experiment in the name of “Change” in 2018.
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that not external but internal security could be a problem because when there is hunger, unemployment and lack of education in the nation, it cannot be protected by tanks.
