Opposition won’t validate govt’s ‘inapt’ legislation

The virtual meeting of the opposition’s steering committee that was held to deliberate on the procedure of legislation in the parliament came to an end on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sources informed that the meeting mulled over points of the letter being written in reply to National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser’s epistle. The committee also reviewed changes made by the government in the parliamentary body members who will appoint two new members of the Election Commission of Pakistan. 

The meeting opposed the presence of Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and Azad Swati in the legislation making committee.

The participants of the meeting were of the view that any legislation that is to be carried out should be according to the law and constitution. They were unanimous in their opinion that the government on the matter of the NAB chairman’s appointment wanted to violate the spirit of the constitution. 

The meeting agreed that the opposition could not support the government when it enacts any law for its own aggrandizement. 

The sources said that the committee members held that the opposition could talk with the government only if it intended to make laws better and not when the government would make them worse. 

The committee resolved to prepare the draft of reply to the speaker’s letter today. 

PML-N rebuffs govt’s narrative 

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that apart from Prime Minister Imran Khan, all other political parties want election reforms declaring the premier an ‘election thief’ as per the Daska by-polls inquiry report of the Election Commission of Pakistan. 

While reacting to Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain’s statement on Sunday, the PML-N spokesperson said that Imran Khan had made every national agenda a contentious issue.

“After the ECP’s Daska by-election inquiry report, the whole Pakistan has come to know about Imran’s election transparency and reforms. You only want to steal election. When your allies will show their distrust on you, then you will remember the success of political system,” she said adding that people did not want electoral agenda, they wanted Imran Khan’s resignation. 

Earlier, Information Minister Ch Fawad posted a tweet on Sunday. He wrote: “Electoral reforms are not Imran Khan or PTI’s agenda. It’s a national agenda. All parties must come forward for electoral reforms. It will be a big success of the political system. Such an electoral system must be made in the results of which every political leadership would repose trust”.

He further said: “PDM is a group of politically abandoned people. Its mission is only to deceive people. The PDM and Maulana Fazlur Rehman have lost their senses after successive failures. We are not worried at all of any long march, short march or quick march.”
