CJP to preside over jail reforms committee meeting on Nov 15

A jail reforms committee was notified on Thursday with Supreme Court chief justice’s approval that will work on reforms in Punjab jails.
The seven-member committee will be headed by Lahore High Court Chief Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza. The first meeting of the jail reforms committee has been convened at 2pm on November 13. Supreme Court Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will preside over the committee meeting. The meeting will be held via video link. Lahore High Court’s retired judge Shabbar Raza Rizvi has been included in the committee.
Other members of the committee are Senator Ahad Khan Cheema, Prisons Additional Inspector General Dr Qadeer Alam, Khadeejah Shah, Amina Qadir Advocate and Law and Justice Commission Joint Secretary Jawad Khan. The committee members will visit jails and submit their report within two months. The committee will submit proposals for reforms involving prisoners and prison laws and make them in compliance with the UNA.
