As the 19th Asian Games draw near, Pakistan's 262-member contingent is all set to compete in a wide array of sports, aiming to make the nation proud.
The event, which runs from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, China, will witness athletes from 45 Asian countries vying for glory in 481 different categories across 40 sports.
Leading Pakistan's charge at this prestigious international sporting event will be javelin throw sensation Arshad Nadeem, who will carry the nation's flag as the flag bearer along with Nida Dar the captain of women's cricket team.
The Pakistani contingent comprises 190 athletes, including 53 women, all gearing up to showcase their skills and determination in the pursuit of medals across 24 different sports, which include hockey, cricket, kabaddi, swimming, and javelin throw.
Arshad Nadeem, often hailed as the shining star of the sports world, is expected to deliver a stellar performance in javelin throw. The nation's hopes are high for a gold medal from this promising athlete. The national hero who clinched silver medals at the World Athletics will proudly carry Pakistan's green flag during the march parade. Pakistan's national sport, hockey, will make its way to the host country on September 21, and the competition will officially commence on the 24th. A highly anticipated match against arch-rivals India is scheduled for September 30th, adding to the excitement surrounding the games.
The Asian Games, which originated in New Delhi in 1951, saw Pakistan's absence during its initial edition. However, since then, Pakistani athletes have accumulated a total of 244 medals, including 44 golds, showcasing the nation's prowess in various sporting disciplines.
