The anti-trafficking organization of the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi has thwarted a massive attempt to smuggle foreign goods into the country, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to sources, acting on a tip-off, the customs staff discovered a substantial quantity of smuggled items hidden within two containers.

These smuggled items were destined for inland transportation via trucks from the vicinity of the Norris Chowrangi site area.

The items include 255 mobile phones of various brands, 1500 laptops, and 1200 tablets. Additionally, customs officials confiscated 25 LCDs, over 1200 electronic cigarettes and their associated flavors, and 100 cartons of soap.

The value of the smuggled goods is estimated at a staggering Rs. 1433 million. What's more, the smugglers had attempted to evade crores of rupees in payable duty taxes through this illegal operation.

In total, the value of the seized goods, including the unpaid taxes, stands at an eye-watering Rs. 227 million.

Notably, authorities have also seized two trucks, valued at lakhs of rupees each, believed to have been instrumental in facilitating this smuggling operation.

A case has been formally registered under the Customs Act, and further investigations are currently underway.
