Agriculture Authority Bill to hit federal cabinet table tomorrow

The federal government has taken a major step to promote agricultural development and agri-trade by preparing a draft bill for the establishment of an Agricultural Authority. The bill has been finalised by the Ministry of National Food Security and is set to be presented in tomorrow’s cabinet meeting.
According to the report, the proposed authority will formally regulate the trade of agricultural commodities and streamline matters related to demand and supply. The authority will also be tasked with promoting commercial activities related to agriculture.
The proposed legislation—titled the National Agri Trade and Food Safety Authority Bill—will be tabled during the cabinet meeting. Preparations are underway to convene the cabinet session tomorrow at 6 PM, following the Prime Minister’s return to the country.
During the meeting, the cabinet will also deliberate on a six-point agenda. The Prime Minister is expected to brief cabinet members on his successful visit to Belarus.
Approval will be sought for the appointment of the first rector of Pir Roshan Institute of Science and Technology, while the Stable Investment Sukuk Framework will also be presented for approval.
The agenda includes ratification of new rules for curbing electronic crimes and the recognition of the College of Medicine at Bahria University, Islamabad. Additionally, the cabinet will consider allowing exemptions for the import of certain unregistered medicines.
