Veteran Pakistani actress Hina Bayat has appeared on the Adnan Faisal Podcast and addressed the criticism she had faced over returning to work after her husband’s demise.
The ‘Khuda Aur Mohabbat’ actress openly talked about the idea of pretending to be religious without knowing the rules and guidelines that come under Islam.
"We want to call ourselves Muslims but we don't want to understand Islam”, she said.
"We just enforce fatwas because we have heard this happens", she added.
The lady said that when her husband passed away the people used to taunt her saying, “Why didn't you sit in Iddat? This is how much you loved your husband. You didn't even finish your Iddat? These women love putting on makeup and coming on camera.”
She also highlighted the fact that “If a woman has to run her home… forget me, think about whether she has kids. That time of 'Oh, the uncle will help her'… NO.”
“Iddat has certain conditions. It is not mandatory.”
Further, she questioned, "Even in the Prophet (PBUH)'s time, when there was war, women would bury their husbands. Has anyone thought about this?"

The actress also disagreed with the myth that women cannot visit graveyards.
"Who said so?" she asked.
"Yes, you can't go to the graveyard and start to cry. Some do it, all get dragged through the mud. However, even males cry out", she lamented.
The host again asked her about the main issue people had with her working to which she responded:
“This was the issue that I didn't complete my Iddat. You tell me, I sit at home, waste my time, and cause harm to another this is fine? This is what God wants?”
Concluding the conversation she said, “There was an ongoing project, it was on-air. And I knew that the scenes for the next episode remained. Should I not have gone? Think about how many people would have suffered, what would they have run?"
