The Lahore High Court Tuesday ordered action against the doctors and other staff of Punjab Institute of Cardiology involved in implanting expired stents during surgeries at the hospital, reported 24News HD TV channel.
The court also directed the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to complete inquiry against the accused within 60 days and submit a report on March 21.
Justice Shahid Waheed heard the case on the request of Farhat Manzoor. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Fayyaz Ahmed Dev and the FIA officers also appeared before the court.
“What action has been taken so far?” asked Justice Shahid Waheed from the representative of healthcare commission to which the latter replied an action against the accused was underway.
“Inquiry against the accused will be completed within 60 days, and they will be indicted within two or three days. Inquiry was halted due to hearing of the case in the court,” the healthcare commission’s representative added.
“Who did ask you to halt the inquiry?” questioned Justice Shahid Waheed to which lawyer for the healthcare commission replied that the inquiry was halted as per the law.
“Why no action has been taken against the accused so far despite the court orders on January 30?” Justice Shahid expressed his displeasure. At this, the CCPO assured the LHC judge of implementing the court orders.
