Lahore High Court has ordered the University of Health Sciences to submit the roll number slip of a final-year dentistry student, Khadija, who was subjected to torture and harassment. The court asked the university to submit the slip on February 17.
A businessman Sheikh Danish and his family tortured and harassed the medical student allegedly after she refused to accept his proposal last year in Faisalabad.
Justice Shahid Karim heard the case and Aftab Bajwa represented the petitioner.
The delay in issuing the roll number drew the ire of the court that summoned the private university admin and the responsible officers of the University of Health Sciences.
The court questioned how could the petitioner complete her attendance at the college under the circumstances she went through.
The influential personalities have been pressurizing the university administration to act against the student, the court heard.
Roll number slip is not being released deliberately to give Khadija another lesson, the court told.
The issue came to the spotlight after footage of torture and humiliation went viral. Police too sprang into action and claimed to have nailed six suspects
According to the police report, Khadija, a final-year student of BDS, was Ana’s friend and would often visit her home.
Danish asked his daughter to send her a marriage proposal that Khadija rejected, the report said, adding that Ana began sending the victim death threats. Upon receiving these threats, Khadija cut off all contact with Danish and his family.
On August 9, Danish and his daughter, along with a group of men, broke into Khadija’s home and kidnapped her and her brother and subjected her to brutality.
