The Election Commission of Azad Kashmir has issued arrest warrants for PTI stalwart and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief minister-designate Ali Amin Gandapur in the case of violation of the election code of conduct, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
In a letter to the deputy commissioner (DC) Dera Ismael Khan, the commission has directed the latter to arrest and produce Gandapur on February 28, 2024.
Raja Zulqarnain, a lawyer, had filed a complaint against the CM-designate during the 2021 general elections in Azad Kashmir.
It is pertinent to mention here that Gandapur, who has been nominated by the former prime minister and ex-PTI chairman Imran Khan for the seat of KP CM after the general elections held on February 8, is wanted by the Lahore Police in the May 9-related violence case.
Yesterday, there were reports on the media that the police had started making concerted efforts to arrest all those winning candidates who had been declared proclaimed offenders (POs) in the cases of violence on May 9.
According to reports, the police, along with officials from the joint investigation team (JIT), have chalked out a strategy to arrest several key figures, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Ali Amin Gandapur, and Imtiaz Sheikh.
According to the JIT officials, a comprehensive plan had been drawn up to hunt down and arrest those involved in the violence on that day.
