Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s lawmaker from ruling party PTI, Anita Mehsud’s walima ceremony was cancelled in line with the government’s measures to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
Anita Mehsud, who hails from the tribal district of South Waziristan, entered the provincial legislature on reserved seats for women in 2019.
Anita Mehsud, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) loyalist, was elected on a reserved seat for women from the once insurgency-hit South Waziristan.
South Waziristan, the largest tribal district in the recently merged Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), has never had any representation in the provincial assembly before 2019.
The KP government had announced a string of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus. These include the closure of borders, educational institutions, ban on public gatherings like political rallies and wedding ceremonies.
