The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday disposed of the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) against the acceptance of the party’s members of the National Assembly (MNAs) resignations by the NA speaker after the party withdrew its petition, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A three-member bench of the SC, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial, heard the case.
PTI’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that since the case was already pending in the high courts, so it would be better to wait for the courts’ verdict.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Bandial, on the occasion, remarked that the apex court, in its interim order, had said that these were the discretionary powers of a speaker as to what mode he adopts to accept the resignations.
He further said the speaker had the power to verify before the acceptance of the resignations.
He went on to say that the PTI had already approached high courts against the acceptance of its MNAs’ resignations.
