The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has sought a hefty increase in power tariff for the next financial year while the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has fixed May 23 for conducting hearing of CPPA application, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Through its request, the CPPA has sought an increase of Rs4.16 per unit in electricity tariff.

All power distribution companies including LESCO have demanded to raise the tariff based on operational cost, capacity charges and fuel price.

The LESCO during the current year has been billing the consumers Rs22.95 per unit and now demanded to bill the consumers during the next financial year Rs25 to Rs27.11.

The Nepra will conduct hearing on CPPA application on May 23 which will consist of seven proposed price categories.

The consumers will be billed next month as per the price to be approved during the Nepra hearing.
