As many as 55 unidentified and unclaimed dead bodies found on the rooftop of the Nishtar Hospital have been handed over to a welfare organization, Edhi Foundation for burial, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the reports, the decomposed dead bodies are being buried in the Nishtar graveyard in coffins after completing religious rituals. A heavy contingent of the police was present on the occasion.

The DNA samples of 55 bodies were obtained and had to send Forensic Lab Lahore to ascertain who they were, and the families of the deceased earlier.

The foundation already buried at least 76 unidentified and unclaimed dead bodies at various places.

On October 13, the Punjab Chief Minister’s (CM) Adviser Chaudhry Zaman Gujjar spotted unclaimed bodies left abandoned on the roof of Nishtar Hospital in Multan. The videos showed the horrors of Nishtar Hospital’s dead house packed with decomposed bodies. In the videos and pictures, some bodies and old wooden cot were thrown on the floor.

Following the discovery of unclaimed bodies, an inquiry committee was formed by the Punjab government to find the culprits.

Later, in the light of the inquiry report, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi ordered the suspension of three doctors of Nishtar Hospital and two station house officers (SHOs) over their alleged negligence in the matter.

Now, the mortuary including the room on the roof of the mortuary has been completely cleaned by the Nishtar administration.
