Audit finds payment to sacked Pakistan Steel Mills employees as suspicious

The audit authorities on Thursday declared the payment of money to the fired employees of Pakistan Steel Mills as suspicious, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
They said that during the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, more than 2,700 employees of Pakistan Steel Mills were paid Rs11 billion.
“The Ministry of Industries and Production will review the issue of payment to Pakistan Steel Mills employees today,” they added.
The audit authorities also described the process of firing employees from Pakistan Steel Mills as non-transparent. They also raised questions on retaining some employees.
It is to be noted here that from 2018 to 2022, the losses of Pakistan Steel Mills reached Rs284 billion. Also, material worth Rs10 billion had been stolen from Pakistan Steel Mills.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had also raised the issue of irregularities in Pakistan Steel Mills.
