The top leadership of the ruling party, the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), gathered for a consultation meeting at the party's secretariat in Model Town, Lahore, on Thursday.
The meeting, chaired by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Secretary Ahsan Iqbal, and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the participants discussed the country's economic and political challenges and formulated the party's strategy for the future governance of the country.
After the meeting, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif addressed the media, clarifying that the issue of former Lt General Faiz Hameed's arrest was not discussed by the PML-N leadership.
When asked about Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan's recent statement, Khawaja Asif described Malik Ahmad Khan as a younger brother and mentioned that he would consult with him on the matter concerning Gen Faiz Hameed, emphasising that he did not wish to create any controversy over the issue.
Responding to another question about the alleged instability of the government, Khawaja Asif dismissed the rumours, asserting that the opposition was merely trying to reassure itself by spreading such propaganda.
Today morning, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan remarked that the ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations) had already issued a clear stance on the matter of General Faiz Hameed and stated that the entire situation culminated with the events of May 9.
Malik Ahmad Khan further stated that the issue of the arrest of General Faiz Hamed was not political.
He added that communication with General Bajwa had been limited and hinted that certain secrets should remain buried.
