The Lahore High Court (LHC) is set to deliberate on a case challenging the appointment of Deputy Returning Officers (DROs) and Returning Officers (ROs) from within the bureaucracy, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to a cause list issued by the LHC officially on Friday, the case will be heard on December 18 by a five-member larger bench led by Justice Ali Baqir Najafi.
The other members of the bench are Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry, Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, Justice Jawad Hasan, and Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed.
This judicial panel will delve into the intricacies of the case and consider the application filed by barrister Umair Khan Niazi, representing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
In the petition, the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Federal Government, the Punjab Government, and several other relevant entities have been named as respondents.
The petitioner sought the court's intervention to declare any potential appointments of returning officers from the bureaucracy as null and void.
The larger bench is expected to scrutinize the legal aspects of the case and evaluate the constitutional validity of bureaucratic appointments in this context.
