PM takes notice of cotton purchase by govt at lower than fixed price

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar took notice of cotton purchase by the government at lower than the fixed price, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The prime minister directed the Trading Corporation of Pakistan to take notice and submit an immediate report.
It is learnt that the government had fixed the minimum price of cotton to support the cotton farmers, but it has been noticed that cotton is being bought at a lower price in some places.
The prime minister said that it was good to have a good cotton crop in the country, adding: “All the benefits should reach the farmers.”
The prime minister also held a meeting with caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
During the meeting, matters relating to the affairs of Punjab came under discussion.
The prime minister commended the efforts of the Punjab chief minister for bumper cotton crop.
On the other hand, Sindh Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi at Punjab House Islamabad.
Both chief ministers discussed necessary steps to maintain cotton prices. It was also decided to approach the federal government to maintain cotton prices.
Both chief ministers agreed that farmers in Sindh and Punjab would be given the proper price of the crop.
On the occasion, Mohsin Naqvi said that a request would be to the prime minister for the purchase of cotton.
He urged the farmers of Sindh and Punjab not to sell cotton at lower prices.
“The labour of the farmers will not be wasted. Punjab and Sindh will take necessary measures together,” he added.
