Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has continued showering benefits on the provincial bureaucracy from the national kitty, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a recent move, he approved a summary to give 100 percent secretariat allowance to the civil secretariat officials of BS-1 to BS-22.
It would increase a burden of one billion rupees annually to the provincial exchequer.
Earlier, it was decided to grant a secretariat allowance equal to 50% on the running basic pay scales 2017 to the employees of the Punjab Civil Secretariat of grade 01 to 22.
The Punjab Finance Department sent the summary to the Chief Minister of Punjab which was immediately approved.
The increase in the salaries of the bureaucracy has been done in order to increase the civil secretariat allowance.
According to the sources, the senior officers will also take benefit from the allowance.
They said that a 50% increase in the allowance on the basic salary of the officers in 2017 has been approved in principle. This allowance will be applied only to the officers and employees of the Civil Secretariat and S&GAD.
Even before this, the salaries of the officers have been increased by 50% during the Buzdar regime. The officers posted in the departments outside the Secretariat are receiving only a 50 percent allowance.
