Justice Umar Ata Bandial appointed as new CJP, notification issued

Justice Umar Ata Bandial has been appointed as Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), 24News HD TV Channel reported on Monday.
According to the channel, Justice Umar Ata Bandial will assume the post of Chief Justice from February 2, 2022.
The report said the Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a notification of the appointment after the approval of President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial is currently the most senior judge of the Supreme Court. He (born 17 September 1958) has been a Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan since 17 June 2014.
Justice Bandial will become chief justice for one year, six months and 25 days from 2 February 2022 until 16 September 2023.
He received his bachelor's degree in economics from Columbia University in 1979 and received his law degree from the University of Cambridge in 1981.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial had been elevated as an LHC judge on December 4, 2004.
