CM Maryam slams PTI for misleading public on college incident

Calling PTI a ‘party of terrorists’, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday said everybody knew who had misguided the students on the alleged rape of a Punjab College, Lahore’s female student, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a news conference in Lahore, Maryam said that the PTI conspired against the Punjab government by spreading baseless news that there was a rape of a girl and that she eventually passed away at a hospital.

“Now I have come to the conclusion that after repeatedly failing in mustering support for its protest demonstrations and rallies, the party has hatched another conspiracy to bring a bad name to the government.”

The CM said that the SCO summit had been held in Islamabad and the country was on the path to progress. “But the problem with the PTI is that it does not want Pakistan to prosper. Because, if it does that, its popularity receives a blow.”

She said that on October 10, the police were informed that a girl had been raped at a private college. “The informant even named that girl and said the incident had taken place on October 10,” she said, adding, “But the girl, whose name had been mentioned, had been admitted to a hospital on October 2 because she had fallen to the floor due to which she received injuries.”

The chief minister went on to say that she had talked to the girl’s father who had told her that besides that girl he had five daughters.

Calling a few anchors on mainstream media as well as those running YouTube channels PTI-paid, she said they were also part of the conspiracy. “Today, I am addressing the nation on a most important issue and want to tell them the truth.”

“Let me tell you that the incident that was reported in the media was nothing but a lie. This is even more important for me because I am myself a mother,” Maryam said emphatically.     

The chief minister said that ever since the complaint was made, Punjab Police were looking for the girl.

“It was spread on social media that the girl had been raped in the college’s basement. And when she screamed, Rescue 1122 vehicle rushed to the scene,” she said, adding, “The truth of the matter is that the rescue personnel did not go to the college on that day.”  

Maryam said she had talked to the girl named Mahnoor. “The girl told me that she had been asked by a teacher to raise an alarm.”

The fact, she went on to say, Mahnoor was not even the student of that campus.

The chief minister refuted reports that the CCTV camera footage had been deleted to hide the crime. “There is no witness to this incident since it did not happen.”
