Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), waiting to form a government at the Centre, has alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has a track record for not accepting the election results and it also did not learn any lesson from the May 9 vandalism, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The was said by PML-N leader Malik Ahmad Khan while addressing a joint news conference with other party leaders – Attaullah Tarar and Azma Bukhari – in Lahore on Sunday.
Responding to a question regarding Rawalpindi commissioner’s allegations, Malik Ahmad Khan said Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha has nothing to do with elections.
He said PTI forged a propaganda of 35 punctures in 2013 elections but the party could not prove their allegations in the court. “Allegations of former Rawalpindi commissioner has no foundation as he had no connection with the polling process,” the PML-N leader added.
Malik claimed former commission must provide proof in support of his allegations, claiming an anti-Pakistan campaign was being run by a group from abroad.
The PML-N leader said PTI was misguiding the public about election results after the statement of Liaquat Ali Chattha, alleging the PTI is inciting the public against government officials and called on the caretakers to take action against the party.
The PML-N likened the PTI to Pablo Escobar (Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was a Colombian drug lord, narco-terrorist, and politician, who was the founder and sole leader of the Medellín Cartel).. “There is no difference between the two,” he said, adding the party’s workers were harassing government officials.
Malik Ahmad further claimed that a similar pattern was also seen before the May 9 riots, recalling how PTI workers attacked the police and law enforcement agencies at the time of Imran Khan’s arrest. “I request the caretakers that the way the situation has developed and if you don’t pre-empt it, this will spiral out of control,” he added.
He said the outgoing Rawalpindi commissioner, who has made explosive allegations of rigging during the Feb 8 polls, was a “non-party to elections”. “Neither he is the returning officer nor the district returning officer. He has no relation with the entire electoral process. He does not even have any interactive position with the ECP. He does not have any relation with the election or the compilation of poll results. He has nothing to do with the entire process,” the PML-N leader added.
Malik Ahmad further claimed that a dangerous campaign had begun against district returning officers to “incite hate” and followed a pattern similar to the May 9 saga.
Speaking on the occasion, Attaullah Tarar urged the caretaker government to take strict action against those who threatened returning officers (ROs). “Is it not terrorism when they display the Ros’ photos online?” Tarar asked while labelling it a highly condemnable action.
Tarar asserted that the upcoming era belongs to the PML-N. “Remember, this constituency was Nawaz Sharif’s in the past and remains so today too,” he said and praised Khawaja Saad Rafique for graciously accepting his defeat and urged others to show similar bravery as well.
Tarar said “On the one hand you’ve won seats, yet you’re complaining about rigging. Choose which statement you’re supporting.”
Tarar also lamented the “wrong use” of social media, saying it has been used to spread lies and create animosity between people.
Azma Bukhari, claimed that the ROs and District Returning Officers (DROs) were being pressured to be like Liaquat Ali Chattha, alleging they were being forced to lie about election process. “This cannot happen in any banana republic, that they are pressured to become like Liaquat Chattha, and if they don’t comply, they are told they have no place in this country,” she added.
