The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to cut the cargo fare by up to 30 percent in order to help and expedite mango export process and prevent production from being affected by coronavirus pandemic restrictions, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
A PIA Spokesperson said that due to short-shelf life, most of mango exports are by air cargo and more than 50 percent of air cargo share of mango export belongs to PIA.
“10,000 metric tons of high-quality mangoes are exported from Pakistan every year through air cargo,” the PIA spokesperson said. “The PIA is playing a significant role in the national cause,” the PIA spokesman added.
Earlier, Special Committee of the National Assembly (NA) on Agriculture Products asked the concerned authorities to help country’s mango export. Head of Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchant Association (PFVA) Waheed Ahmed briefed the meeting about the current situation of the mangoes export to other countries and how reduction in cargo fares can boost the export ratio.
