India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)  General Anil Chauhan has said that despite economic difficulties Pakistan is going through these days, the country’s army remains a threat to India, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2024, the general has said that despite financial issues, the strength of the Pakistan Army remains very much intact.

He has admitted that India needs to equip itself with the latest weapons besides changing its war strategy.

India’s CDS has said that the rise of China and its 'friendship' with Pakistan are the biggest challenges the Indian armed forces are facing today.

He has further said that both the neighbours speak of their friendship "as high as the Himalayas and as deep as the oceans" and they are both nuclear capable.

These remarks by a senior general in the Indian Army have come just a few days after it conducted a mega exercise, ‘Bharat Shakti’ in Pokhran, a town bordering Pakistan, and is a testimony that the Pakistan Army has always given a befitting reply to its enemies that remains etched in their memories and they don’t dare to cast an evil eye on Pakistan again.

There is a background to the acknowledgment of Pakistan Army’s capabilities made by the Indian general.

These traits distinguish the country’s army from other armies in the region.

In February 2019, Pakistan had taught such a lesson to India through its Operation Swift Retort that the latter did not dare to violate the former’s airspace again.

These remarks are also an eye-opener for the Modi government that any aggression by India against Pakistan in the future will be met with full force.
