Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has indicated possible contempt of court proceedings against Adiala Jail officials for obstructing meetings of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the petition seeking meetings between Imran Khan and his lawyers on Thursday. The superintendent of Adiala Jail submitted a list of meetings with Imran Khan.

During the hearing, Imran Khan's lawyer Advocate Shoaib Shaheen told the court that despite a court order mandating two meetings per week, opposition leaders and other PTI officials were made to stand for four hours without being allowed to meet Imran Khan.

The Advocate General replied that the lawyers representing Imran Khan in his cases did not show up and only politically active lawyers came instead who also made a demand for their joint meeting with the PTI founder.

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan remarked that Imran Khan faced over 200 cases which were politically motivated. He added that the main lawyers make meetings with Imran Khan and then provide instructions to those representing him in court.

Advocate Shoaib Shaheen also mentioned that they were allowed to park their vehicles 1.5 kilometres away from the jail. He further complained about a glass barrier between Imran Khan and his visitors, hindering document exchange and conversations.

On this, Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan said such practices were unacceptable and warned the jail authorities that preventing the review of documents would result in contempt of court notices as it obstructs the process of justice.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing until September 13.

Imran Khan challenges physical remand in LHC

PTI founder Imran Khan challenged anti-terrorism court’s decision to grant his physical remand in 12 cases relating to May 9 vandalism in Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Imran Khan’s lawyers filed 12 petitions in the court, praying LHC to rejected the physical remand.

The pleas stated that the ATC did not analyse the record correctly while granting the physical remand.

Imran Khan is already in jail and police had interrogated him several times, the pleas said.
