Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Amir Bhatti Friday resumed the hearing on the petition for the recovery of missing journalist Imran Riaz filed by his father.
Punjab police chief Dr Usman Anwar appeared in the court and submitted a report, saying a working group has been formed and personnel of security agencies are part of it.
He added a meeting has also been held with the people of sensitive institutions while the mobile phone data has been gathered from authorities concerned and top cops of other provinces, Nadra and FIA officials are in contact.
He told the court that efforts are underway for recovery of Imran who, according to the IGP, seems to have gone into hiding.
The lawyer questioned who gave orders to release Imran from the jail and on which vehicle Imran was taken out.
The IGP told the court that Imran went out of the jail alone. Jail camera footage was played in the courtroom on the orders of the chief justice and the CJ remarked that he was surprised at lack of security at the jail.
At this the IGP said the prisons department can talks about this matter.
This situation is regretful, the CJ remarked. As the father of Imran Riaz got emotional during the proceedings, the CJ assured him of all-out efforts saying he too wanted Imran’s safe recovery.
The court adjourned the hearing till tomorrow.
