The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Tuesday approved a winter power package aimed at providing significant electricity tariff relief to domestic, commercial, and industrial users, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The package, initially announced by Prime Minister a week and a half ago, will be applicable for the three winter months from December 2024 to February 2025. It includes a flat rate of Rs. 26.07 per unit for electricity consumption exceeding usage from the same period last year.
Key features of the approved package include:
Relief of Rs. 11.42 to Rs. 26 per unit for domestic consumers.
Relief of Rs. 13.46 to Rs. 22.71 per unit for commercial consumers.
Relief of **Rs. 5.72 to Rs. 15.05 per unit for industrial consumers.
The package will apply to consumers utilizing an additional 25% or more units compared to their usage last winter.
The ECC’s decision also sanctioned over Rs. 3 billion in funds for the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to address pressing needs.
The winter power package aims to incentivize increased electricity consumption during off-peak months, benefiting both consumers and the energy sector while ensuring affordability and accessibility.
