The anti-corruption court (ATC) in Lahore on Wednesday ended the proceedings against the DIG Jails for not executing the robkar (release order) of former Chief Minister Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the court has summoned DIG Jails over non-compliance with Elahi’s release order in a case of illegal appointments in the Punjab Assembly and returned it with objection.
DIG Prisons appeared before the court and promised to investigate the matter.
Anti-Corruption Special Judge Ali Raza Awan conducted the proceedings.
DIG Prisons Naveed Rauf and Superintendent Camp Jail Zaheer appeared in court.
The court inquired from the DIG Prisons as to how there was a delay in the implementation of Parvez Elahi's release.
During the court proceedings, the Superintendent of the Jails defended the actions of the prison authorities, stating that they had not “intentionally violated any court orders”.
The superintendent claimed that due to the ambiguity in the decision on Robkar, the execution of the release was halted.
Furthermore, the jail officials informed the court that while Elahi had been granted release in the fake recruitment case, he still remains incarcerated in other cases.
DIG Jails also promised to inquire further into the matter.
The court held, "Okay, you should inquire, the purpose was to inform you, now it is your responsibility to ensure that this does not happen again."
On the assurance of the DIG Jail, the court ended the show-cause notice proceedings against the jail authorities.
