Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam Chief and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Vice-President Maryam Nawaz would hold a meeting tomorrow (Sunday) in Jati Umrah, reported 24News HD TV channel Saturday.
The meeting has been set after a telephonic contact between PML-N and JUI.
Fazl will reach Lahore today from Peshawar and would hold a meeting with Maryam tomorrow.
The meeting is of utmost importance as the opposition alliance is facing a crisis after differences emerged between the two major parties PML-N and PPP and the PPP has backed out from the PDM’s stance to resign from the assemblies before staging a long march against the government.
Moreover, the Opposition Leader slot in the Senate has also become another bone of contention between the two parties as the PML-N wanted the slot for its newly-elected Senator Azam Nazir Tarar whereas, the second-largest party in the Senate PPP is opposing the move in the pretext that Azam Tarar was the lawyer of the police officials who were trialled in former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case. The PPP now wanted the opposition slot as well.
In an earlier PDM meeting held before the election of the Senate chairman, it was decided that the PPP would get Chairman’s slot, JUI-F Deputy Chairman and PML-N Opposition Leader. However, the failure of PDM’s alliance to get their candidates elected despite having the majority has created tension among their ranks and PPP and the PDM are most likely to part ways.
There are also reports of a rift among the PML-N ranks and Maryam and Hamza also reportedly had heated exchanges during the last PML-N meeting where both questioned each other’s political approach in this tricky situation and the damages that could the PML-N suffer if it continued heading towards a confrontation with the state institutions.
Earlier, Maulana Fazl and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif also had held a telephonic conversation in which both agreed to remain stick to their stance of resignations from the assemblies and staging a long march.
Fazl said during the conversation that they had delayed the long march and did not postpone it and a final decision in this regard would be taken only after a final reply from the PPP on the issue of the resignations.
PPP would hold its Central Executive Committee’s meeting on April 4 in Rawalpindi where it would also hold a gathering to mark the death anniversary of former prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. In the meeting, the PPP would discuss the issue of resignations and would give a final reply to the PDM in this regard.
The PPP is most likely to propose the PDM to go for no-trust motions against Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar. However, PML-N does not seem to be interested in the move as many in their ranks think that in case of the success of such a move, the PPP and PML-Q would be the biggest winner while the PML-N will lose its ground in Punjab, which is a key to hold power in the Centre.
On the other hand, Maryam, whose encrypted tweet after the PDM’s fall-out session that has been supposed to be aimed at the PPP, is in no mood to let off any chance to confront the government as well as the establishment and is quite eager to continue with the confrontation political stance. The same is the case with Fazl who also looks quite desperate while waiting outside the parliament and being in the opposition after a long time and wanted to overthrow the Imran Khan-led PTI government at all cost and as soon as possible.
So the meeting between both leaders may near huge consequences and likely to devise the future strategy of the Pakistan Democratic Movement most probably sans Pakistan Peoples Party.
