The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a show-cause notice to Federal Minister for Railways Azam Swati for not appearing before the commission to explain his position vis-a-vis his allegations against the ECP and its chief, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The commission directed Mr Swati to appear personally before it on Oct 26.
Last month, Railways Minister Swati levied serious corruption charges on the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja during a press talk along with Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan,
The election commission took note of it and issued notices to both the ministers for levelling corruption charges against its head.
A two-member bench of the commission heard the case on Thursday.
The ECP had summoned Mr Swati to appear in person before the commission and prove his accusations. But the minister skipped the hearing. His lawyer appeared before the bench on his behalf.
The lawyer told the bench that Mr Swati’s senior counsel was busy in the Supreme Court and he would argue the case before the commission.
