The man, who had raped his seven-year-old niece before brutally murdering her in Mandra, was killed after his accomplices opened fire at a police van in which he was being taken for the recovery of the weapon he had used to kill the child, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The suspects, however, fled from the scene while firing into the air.
Police had arrested Suneel last night.
As per reports, the man was an addict and lived near the girl’s house.
On Easter, he took the girl with him to an under-construction house where he raped her.
And when the child raised hue and cry, Suneel first slit her throat with a scissor.
Then he hit her head with a brick before strangling her.
The suspect was so shrewd that he went to the girl’s home and started searching for her along with her family members.
But when the police noticed his weird behavior, they questioned him.
During the interrogation, Suneel confessed to his crime.
CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani has applauded ASP Gujjar Khan and Mandra police for arresting the suspect within 24 hours of the crime. “Women and children are our red line,” he has said, adding, “Crimes against them are simply intolerable. And those found involved in such abominable acts will be dealt with an iron hand.”
