Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s former wife Reham Khan said on Saturday that TV channels in Pakistan are pro-Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

During a media talk, Reham said that TV lineup on prime TV is pro-PTI. She said that people will not watch a programme on the green initiative at 8:00 pm, but they will watch a programme on the former prime minister’s letter or a programme on Adiala Jail where the PTI founder has been incarcerated for more than a year now.

Without naming Imran Khan and his family members, Reham said that people would watch programmes featuring his wife, sister, nephew, but they would not watch a programme on the green initiative.

Acknowledging the fact that the PTI knows how to make an effective use of social media, Reham said, “We should be a fan of PTI’s social media.” She said that that Imran Khan was a prime minister of Facebook and he is prime minister on Facebook even today.

Venting her frustration on the rulers, Reham said the government and the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) have failed to compete with the PTI despite the fact that they are in power and have the resources to do it. She said this is a war of disinformation.

“If I want to watch the Mustafa-Sharjeena drama and I don’t want to see politics, then why PTI’s post is showing on my Facebook page. Why isn’t my brother’s post (reference to a reporter sitting in front of her) showing on my Facebook page? Just because he does not know how to do it;” she said.

Reham, who has worked as weather girl with BBC, said, “This is a war of disinformation and we are living in the age of artificial intelligence.”

She said, “General Asim Munir recently received a presentation on artificial intelligence at Sandhurst, but here our children don’t know how to use social media.”

Reham said that journalists told her during an off the record conversation that it was difficult for them to understand dynamics of social media. She quoted them as saying that training was required to understand this and funding was required in dollar for training. She said the PTI is investing dollar and you can see the result.

She said, “It does not mean I have a “soft spot”. I am a very “harsh” woman. I don’t have a “soft spot” even for my family. I am very “principled”. I am just saying that a skill can be learned from anyone.”

Answering a question about her book, she told journalists that people these days don’t read even newspaper editorials, why would they read her book. She said she would not write a book; she would make videos, vlogs, or a film.
