COAS awards medals to officers, soldiers at GHQ

An award distribution ceremony was held Monday at General Headquarters (GHQ) in honour of martyrs and veterans, said a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir awarded military honours to the officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army for their bravery and outstanding service to the nation during operations.
51 officers were awarded Sitara Imtiaz (Military), 22 officers and jawans were awarded Tamga-e-Basalat and two jawans were awarded the United Nations Special Medal.
A large number of senior officers of the Pakistan Army and families of martyrs participated in the ceremony.
On the occasion, COAS said: "Undoubtedly, we live in a free atmosphere due to the martyrs' sense of duty and great sacrifices. Sacrifices of martyrs and services of Ghazis are our valuable asset and capital of pride.”
He said Pakistan Army as an institution always remembers every person associated with it and their families and our relationship as a family is a proud and exemplary one.
"Every soldier and officer of the Pakistan Army put its duties and responsibilities first, regardless of regional, linguistic, and political prejudices and distinctions," said COAS.
"A strong army guarantees the country's security and unity," he added.
The Army Chief termed the recent attacks on military installations, memorials and sanctuaries of martyrs as very sad and said that they were intolerable.
Army Chief also announced to celebrate "Pakistan Martyrs Day" on May 25.
