PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said Prime Minister Imran Niazi and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar were the actual characters behind the flour and sugar scandals.

The inquiry conducted by the investigation commission, FIA and NAB was an attempt to divert attention and protect the real culprit, said Shehbaz, who added that his party had decided to expose the culprits and reveal the facts.

Addressing the PML-N Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting via video link, he remarked that the prime minister had imposed a lockdown on the National Assembly speaker.

If the cabinet meetings could be held then why no Parliament session is possible, Shehbaz questioned.

The Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly said the government had been unable to devise a national strategy to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, as he called for summoning the National Assembly session immediately to formulate a cohesive national policy.

There is a confusion on every issue including lockdown; it is visible in every matter from providing relief to the people and protective gear for the doctors, the PML-N president mentioned.

This confusion, he said, was clear from the economic packages and determining the policy rate [interest rate]. The confused mind of Imran could cause serious damage, Shehbaz added.

He said the doctors had been warning about the coronavirus spread because of ambiguous lockdown policy. The time calls for taking clear decisions as the rapid spread of coronavirus is frightening, the PML-N president maintained.

Shehbaz said they had extended the hand for unconditional cooperation towards the government with sincerity only for the people. The same passion was behind the national strategy formulated in consultation with all the stakeholders which had been endorsed by other opposition parties too, he recalled.
