The Sindh government has decided to build a mausoleum over Shahenshah-e-Ghazal Mehdi Hasan Khan’s grave due to the existent state of the grave being in unsatisfactory and poor conditions. 

Mehdi Hasan was an eminent Pakistani singer who composed perpetual content for the Pakistani showbiz industry.

He is particularly remembered for his ‘ghazal singing’ and was bestowed with the honour of  "Shahenshah-e-Ghazal" (Emperor of Ghazal).

Mehdi’s impactful voice still has a powerful effect over the masses and is considered to be one of the reasons people on such a massive scale recognized the delicacy and intricateness of ghazals. 

Mehdi Hasan paved the road for many influential stars of modern age. Due to his unique approach to the world of melody, the biggest singers including Sonu Nigam and Jagjit Singh’s voice resonates and leaves an empowering impact over the senses. 

Mehdi had the honour for creating music for a sum of three hundred films. What a beaming accomplishment Mehdi Sahab! 

Widely acclaimed Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar was also a big fan of Mehdi Hasan and is reported to have said, ‘When I listen to his voice, it feels as if I am hearing the voice of God’. Lata’s heart-felt opinion over Mehdi’s soulful voice.

Mehdi Hasan is recognized for his prominent skills worldwide and is considered to be one of the best singers ever. 

Mehdi Hasan’s list of awards:

- K. L. Saigal Award, Gorkha Dakshina Bahu, Pride of Performance, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Nishan-e-Imtiaz.

Mehdi Hassan lost the battle of life in 2012 and breathed his last at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi.

Such celebrated and profound artists never leave the threshold of a fan’s memory. The Sindh government’s initiative to restore the honourable singer’s grave is definitely a brilliant move bestowing respect to his memory. Such artists who provide the country with such timeless content deserve utmost consideration and respect. Mehdi Hasan will forever be remembered and missed.
