Lahore, with AQI 512, emerges as world’s second most polluted city

With the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 512, Lahore was ranked as the second most polluted city in the world on Wednesday, while the most polluted in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.


The level of pollution in the provincial capital rose so much that residents even faced difficulty in breathing.   


Multan, with AQI 220, while Peshawar, with AQI 197, emerged as the second and third most polluted cities in the country, respectively.  


The air quality was worst at Syed Maratab Ali Road in the city where the AQI stood at 722, followed by the US consulate where it was recorded at 680, while DHA with AQI 512 and Askari-10 with AQI 510 were at the third and fourth positions, respectively.


On the other hand, extremely high pollution prompted doctors to advise people to wear facemasks before stepping out of their homes, while the Met Office forecast dry weather for the city during the next 24 hours.
