While expressing solidarity with the people hit by disastrous floods in Pakistan, renowned actor Azfar Rehman, who, on account of his indisputable acting skills, has been nominated for Hum Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role, has chosen to withdraw from coveted Hum Award show that is scheduled to be held in Toronto, Canada on September 24, 2022.
In the early hours of Friday, he posted the news on Instagram and claimed that he deliberately took this decision, “withdrawn by choice with due respect to the coveted event.”
He further apologised to his admirers for being absent though he was nominated and requested to donate the ticket money to the needy people. He wrote: “Sorry to disappoint my fans in Toronto Canada, I shall not be attending Hum Awards this year even though I’m nominated in the best actor in a negative role category. I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters drowning in the floods. I request the authority at the awards to kindly donate my ticket and stay money to the flood relief,” ending it with ‘Pakistan Zindabad.’
Several famous people including Areeba Habib, Ayesha Omar, Mehwish Hayat, Nadia Afgan, Ali Kazmi, Sadaf Kanwal, and Shagufta Ejaz supported his post.
On the other hand, social media criticism has also escalated as more assistance is demanded for flood victims and celebrities in Toronto are slammed to attend an event in flood crisis. However, a percentage of the money raised from the sale of the award show tickets will be donated to flood aid, as Hum has already stated. Some famous people have also asserted that they have made personal contributions and sought to spread awareness of the floods.
