A Karachi consumer court has imposed Rs0.575 million fine on an international airline on the complaint of a citizen, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

A citizen, Obaid, filed a complaint in Karachi Consumer Court South against Qatar Airways for cancelling his ticket. He told the court that he was supposed to reach London on Oct 7, and was due to fly back on Nov 3, 2020. But the airline cancelled his ticket.

The petitioner said the airline issued a new ticket after a lapse of 23 hours. But he had to face both mental and financial hardship as he had to spend an extra 600 Euro and book the hotel again.

The airline had cancelled flights due to coronavirus restrictions.

However, Qatar Airways contended that it is travel agents’ job to inform the customers about cancellation or delay of flights. The airline said that it had informed the travel agents.

However, judicial magistrate Mukesh Kumar directed the international airline to pay Rs0.575 million fine to the petitioner.

The case was filed in the court on December 5, 2020.
