Paintings of prominent Sri Lankan cricketers on police station wall

Wall paintings of the prominent Sri Lankan cricketers were unveiled at the Pallekele Police Station in Kandy earlier this week.
The unveiling ceremony was held to give a well-deserved send off to the Kandy D I G of the police who retired on Thursday.
The next-door wall of the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium has been painted with the National flag and the Police flag followed by the S T F in action, Dog Petrol, Mounted Police, Ceremonial Police and how the uniforms changed from 1815 up to date. The remainder of the wall has 15 prominent national cricketers including Muthiah Muralitharan, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jaywardene, Arjuna Ranatunga, Ranjan Madhugalle, Kumar Dharmasena, Sidath Wettimuny, Angelo Mathews etc.
The wall also has the painting of the woman cricketer Shashikala Siriwardene.
After the unveiling of the murals by the D I G and Kumar Sangakkara a Badminton Court within the police station premises was also opened by Kumar Sangakkara who is a very talented Badminton player as well as a Tennis player.
"In my opinion, what we have done with regard to the wall paintings is quite unique and not done anywhere else in the world", a local resident and a cricket fan, Kasturi Kasturiratne, who sought permission from all cricketers to have their art paintings on the wall, said exclusively.
"I am so glad to be among the great cricketers and the police inspector artist Darmapriya Samaranayake has done a great job", Shashikala Siriwardene, speaking over telephone, said.
