A report by the chief minister's inquiry and inspection team has revealed a mega corruption scandal in the Sindh education department involving the purchase of furniture worth over Rs23million reported 24NewsHD TV channel Saturday.

The report, which was sent to Sindh Chief Secretary Dr. Muhammad Fakhr Alam Irfan, named former director of education Sukkur Abdul Waheed Andhar and office superintendent director of office Sukkur Abdul Rasheed Abro as the main culprits.

According to the report, the duo misused their authority and violated the rules and regulations of the law to embezzle funds from the government treasury in three districts of Sukkur division: Sukkur, Ghotki and Khairpur. They did not form a market survey committee, did not ensure the inspection of purchased items, submitted fake delivery receipts and delivered defective material to the schools.

The chief secretary has issued a show cause notice to Andhar and sought his clarification within fourteen days. If he fails to submit his explanation on time, his pension will be stopped.

He has also been transferred to Hyderabad Building as chief engineer for incompetent mismanagement and serious violation. The school education department has issued a separate show cause notice to him as well.

The report stated that Andhar and Abro caused a loss of near Rs100million to the government treasury and delivered poor quality material worth Rs14million to the schools. The report also mentioned that Andhar tried hard to put pressure on the inspection committee and forged several documents.

The chief secretary expressed his dismay over the corruption scandal and said that transparency and money were not valued by the accused.

He said that he would not tolerate any corruption in the education department and would take strict action against those involved.
