PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday said the problems faced by Pakistan could not be solved unless the freedom of expression was protected, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to media persons after visiting the residence of senior journalist Matiullah Jan in the Bhara Kahu area of Islamabad, he said no one could be deprived of freedom of expression.
“Everyone enjoys the freedom of speech in a democratic country,” Bilawal said and demanded that the culprits involved in the incident should be brought to justice.
Promising that the PPP will continue fighting for freedom expression, he expressed complete solidarity with Matiullah who was recently abducted by armed men in broad daylight from the federal capital and released hours later amid strong local and international reaction.
“Is this government so weak that it is frightened by a tweet,” the PPP chairman remarked and added that kidnapping of Matiullah was against the media freedom, law and Constitution.
“Don’t snatch the right of freedom of speech from Matiullah,” he said and vowed not to leave the media workers alone in any circumstances.
Criticising the PTI for getting the critics removed from their jobs in media houses, Bilawal said the fascist government could not even tolerate those journalists who were exposing its actions on web (YouTube) channels.
Separately, PPP Senator Moula Bux Chandio told journalists in Hyderabad that the selected prime minister neither accepted the provinces’ right nor was ready to accept the Parliament’s supremacy.
He said Imran represented a combination of the four dictators who had ruled the country and had just shattered the Constitution.
He called for shutting down the National Accountability Bureau which, he said, had proven to be a political engineering tool.
